Intern Housing

Requirements

Intern Housing is open to all university students that are at least 18 years old and interning with a company in the Savannah area year round!

During the registration process, all guests will be asked to submit the following items:

  • Proof of collegiate enrollment (can be unofficial transcript)
  • Internship vertification (on official leaderhead)
  • Driver's license or state-issued ID

Renter's Insurance

We encourage all individuals to carry appropriate insurance to cover such losses. In addition, individuals are strongly encouraged to obtain both personal property insurance for damage to personal belongings as well as liability insurance to cover damage to university property that the Guest Occupant is found responsible for due to negligence, accident, or intentional action on the Guest Occupant’s part (e.g., the guest leaves item on the stove and a fire occurs causing smoke, fire and water damage to the guest’s room, shared spaces or other occupants rooms)

Things to Bring

Most guests bring too much stuff! Please "pack light" for your trip to campus. Remember, we have easily accessible stores close to campus, so if you forget something, you can get it here! Last, storage in your room is limited to your dresser, closet and under your bed. There are no storage rooms in any of our locations.

Prohibited Items

  • tobacco and smoking products (Tobacco Free Campus)
  • alcoholic beverages (if under 21 years of age)
  • candles (lighted), fireworks, weapons, incense
  • any appliance with an open or exposed heating element
  • lofts,masking tape, nails, other products which damage or deface painted walls
  • pets
  • personal door locks
  • traditional extension cords

Bicycles

A special note about bicycles: You are welcomed to bring your bike, but you cannot easily store it in your room. Bike racks are provided around the apartment complex. Be sure to bring a strong U-shaped lock (not a cable lock)!

Kitchen Appliances

For your convenience, the kitchens in apartments include a microwave, refrigerator, sink, and stove. Dishes, pots, and pans are not provided for you. You may consider bringing the following kitchen items as well:

  • kitchen towels
  • dishwasher detergent
  • liquid soap
  • paper towels
  • ice trays
  • trash bags

Personal appliances that are used for cooking need to be used in a proper and safe manner. No open flame device is allowed in any apartment complex. Appliances that generate high temperatures (generally over 140 degrees such as a George Foreman grill or portable deep fat fryers) are also not allowed in any apartment complex.

In Windward Commons, a community kitchen is available for use during your stay. We encourage you to bring the items listed above to use in that space.

Furniture and Comfort

The apartments also have living room furnishings, with sofa, chairs, and coffee table. All of these items must stay in the living room the entire summer. They cannot be removed or placed in storage.

In suite style rooms no living room furnishings are provided. If an individual is welcome to bring additional soft seating to their space. However, all of the furniture provided in the space must stay in the room the entire stay They cannot be removed or placed in storage.

Individual health and air quality requirements vary greatly between people's desires and needs. Individuals should plan for small portable units (de-humidifer, air cleaner, humidifier, fan, ionizer. etc.) that meet their personal comfort desires as these items are not supplied in the rooms.

Internet

The campus provides internet service through ResNet Services. Please follow the step-by-step guide to register so that you can utilize the wifi while you are staying with us. The login information will be provided at the time of check-in.

Meal Plan

Meal plans for all Eagle Dining facilities can be purchased by visiting the Eagle Card and Parking Office located at 11935 Abercorn Street in Savannah.

The following meals are available for Interns based on a 10 week stay with us.

  • 14 meals a week: $1,085.00
  • 10 meals a week: $775.00
  • 5 meals a week: 388.00
  • 3 meals a week: 232.00

Armstrong Recreation Center (ARC)

All individuals are welcome to purchase an ARC membership to utilize the recreation center next to Windward Commons. We believe that maintaining a balanced, healthy life is equally vital. We provide all the means by which to stay fit and have fun while staying with us at Georgia Southern! 

All memberships are $45.00 and can be purchased by visiting the ARC at 11935 Abercorn Street in Savannah.

Parking

All vehicles parking on campus require a parking permit. You can purchase your parking permit by visiting the Eagle Card and Parking Office located at 11935 Abercorn Street in Savannah.

A parking permit is $50 for all Interns who are bringing a vehicle with them to campus.

Safety

Our goal is to provide our campus guests with a safe and secure environment. The Georgia Southern Police Department (GSPD) is active in creating and promoting a safe campus, especially for our conference guests. Their mission is to enforce laws and campus policies, prevent and detect criminal activity, and reduce the fears of our conference guests through a visible campus presence. Our Guest Services also work with the GSPD to coordinate emergency notifications for hazardous weather and campus alerts. Your safety is our priority.

Directions

To check-in and pick up your apartment key, proceed to Windward Commons front desk. University Housing staff will be able to provide you with the key and point you in the direction of your apartment.
